Hello!  I'm Sam, founder of The Health Docs and this course. I work as a General Practitioner who specialises in lifestyle as medicine. I believe education, self-confidence & community are the keys for improving health.  My aim is to provide you with this evidence based and holistic course designed to genuinely help you on your path to greater health, strength and happiness.

Course Curriculum

Whilst I appreciate you may think that jumping straight into the latest diet is where I might start, that is not the way this course works.  This is not some fad course.

I am going to start with the 14 foundation principles that underlie a healthier lifestyle and weight change.  If a tree's roots are deep and strong, then it can grow tall and healthy.  The same is true for your journey.  Included at the end of this week are key resources including healthy drinks, foods, snacks and general lifestyle principles.

This week is all about understanding.  Understanding our own expectations, the timeline to success, the factors that led us here, and who may be able to help you move forwards. 

Give a person a fish and they eat for a day, teach them to fish and they eat for a lifetime.

That is what this week is all about...Giving you the detail on nutrition and what makes up food so you are empowered to make the right decisions for you and your loved ones.  This covers everything from macro and micro nutrients, food sources, calories, how to read nutrition tables, shopping tips and tricks, affording good food and more. Because if you know the words then you can speak the language. 

A common source of confusion is the debate between various diets out there.  But who to believe?

This week we cover them all from low carb, ketogenic, fasting variations, Mediterranean, plant based, meal replacement shakes and many more.  We review the evidence, the pros, the cons, meal plans and recipes and more so you can find what works for you.

Who said exercise?  I didn't! I am talking about moving for happiness. This week we review the key principles to moving well, moving for pleasure, moving for health, and the evidence along with resources, tips and stories to help.

This topic is the “elephant in the room”. It’s the factor that possibly plays the biggest role in our lives, yet we so rarely speak about it.   We will cover a lot of crucial content here from how our brains work, what cravings and urges are and how to approach them, our emotions and how we can better use them for positive change, mindfulness, the impact of stress and poor sleep on your journey and as always - quality resources to help you.

Can you change and use the power of your mind and your environment to benefit you?  Are you fulfilling your deeper needs? Are you meeting your emotional needs?  What role does your social networks have on your weight and what can you do about it? This week we answer these questions and more.

One of the most common, frustrating and frankly depressing experiences people have is their weights going back up.  This week we review how to reduce the chances of weight regain and how to help you keep the weight off for good.
